RainSoft sells several types of residential water-treatment equipment, including salt-based ion-exchange water softeners, whole-home filtration systems and under-sink reverse-osmosis drinking-water systems. Its documented water-conditioning range includes the EC5, EC5-CAB, EC4 and TC-M series. Sales, installation and service are routed through independently operated authorised dealers.

The important distinction is that “RainSoft” is a brand, not one treatment technology. A RainSoft water softener addresses hardness. A whole-home carbon filter targets different water-quality issues, while an Ultrefiner reverse-osmosis system treats drinking water at a specific tap.

This guide compares the documented systems, treatment methods, certifications, warranty boundaries and buying considerations using manufacturer documentation and exact-model certification records. Family-level catalogue information is separate from the detailed certification and warranty evidence below.

Last certification and warranty evidence review: 13 August 2026.

RainSoft systems at a glance

System / family Type Treatment location Main documented purpose
EC5 Water softener / conditioner Whole home Ion-exchange hardness reduction
EC5-CAB Cabinet water softener Whole home Ion-exchange hardness reduction in a cabinet format
EC4 Water softener / conditioner Whole home Ion-exchange hardness reduction
TC-M Series Water softener / conditioner Whole home Water conditioning; check exact control configuration
TC-FLT H Backwashing carbon filter Whole home Chlorine and taste/odour reduction for the reviewed 75 H configuration
Ultrefiner Elite Reverse osmosis Under sink Drinking-water contaminant reduction
Ultrefiner II Reverse osmosis Under sink Older documented drinking-water platform
OxyTech Problem-solving filtration Whole home Application-specific filtration
Hydrefiner II Drinking-water filtration Under sink Point-of-use drinking-water filtration

Not every family above has the same certification scope, current commercial status or dealer configuration. Exact model and suffix matter; catalogue presence does not establish local stock or extend the reviewed claims to other configurations.

Side-by-side

Compare selected systems

Comparison values reflect the current catalog snapshot. “Under review” is not a negative finding; it means exact evidence has not completed the publication gate.

RainSoft water softeners

The documented EC5, EC5-CAB, EC4 and TC-M families belong in a water-softener comparison, not a comparison with drinking-water filters. Conventional ion exchange reduces calcium and magnesium hardness. The reviewed EC5 and EC4 systems use regenerant salt, electricity and a drain connection; regeneration produces wastewater.

RainSoft EC5

The RainSoft EC5 is an electronically controlled water conditioner. Compare its controls, regeneration settings and any offered app connectivity against the exact configuration in the proposal.

The accepted EC5 75 V record documents an NSF/ANSI 44 listing at 8.6 gpm, with capacities of 26,100 grains at high salt, 21,300 at medium and 9,900 at low. These figures apply to the 75 V; they should not be carried across to another suffix or salt dosage without its own documentation.

RainSoft EC5-CAB

The RainSoft EC5-CAB offers a cabinet-style configuration in the EC5 family. It is relevant where an integrated cabinet format is preferred, but the EC5 75 V figures above are not automatically EC5-CAB figures.

Ask for the exact suffix, dimensions, resin quantity, rated capacity, service flow, salt setting, performance data sheet and certification record before comparing the proposed cabinet system with a separate-tank model.

RainSoft EC4

The RainSoft EC4 is another whole-home ion-exchange water conditioner. The accepted EC4 75 V record is NSF/ANSI 44-listed at 8.6 gpm, with capacities of 21,492 grains at high salt, 19,104 at medium and 8,498 at low.

The EC4 and EC5 use the same fundamental softening method. Capacity, settings, controls and the installation requirements of the quoted configuration are more useful comparison points than the family name alone.

RainSoft TC-M Series

The RainSoft TC-M Series appears in the documented manufacturer catalogue as a water-conditioning platform. Exact capacity, control configuration and warranty terms should be checked against the specific model offered by the dealer. The accepted evidence below does not establish TC-M-specific certification or warranty terms; TC-FLT H filter coverage must not be treated as a TC-M softener warranty.

EC5 vs EC4 vs TC-M: what should you compare?

Start with the configuration and control platform rather than assuming the model name describes a different treatment method.

Comparison factor What to check
Capacity Documented grain capacity for the quoted configuration and salt setting
Service flow Rated flow at the applicable pressure-drop condition
Resin volume Exact amount and resin type
Regeneration control Demand-initiated versus timer/control configuration
Connectivity Remote/app capability where offered
Salt efficiency Grains removed per pound of regenerant at the documented setting
Warranty Component terms for that model and revision
Dealer support Local service availability and call-out terms
Installed price Equipment, labour, plumbing and commissioning scope

Are RainSoft water softeners NSF certified?

Certification is model-specific, not brand-wide. The reviewed EC5 75 V and EC4 75 V rows are under NSF/ANSI 44 for hardness reduction, efficiency-rated hardness reduction, barium reduction and radium 226/228 reduction.

Those claims belong to the listed configurations. They do not turn a water softener into a chlorine, chloramine or microbiological-treatment system. The detailed evidence section retains the exact model and component boundaries.

Does RainSoft remove chlorine or chloramine?

Some RainSoft filtration products have documented chlorine-reduction claims. The reviewed TC-FLT 75 H whole-home carbon configuration has an NSF/ANSI 42 row for chlorine and taste/odour reduction at 5.4 gpm, with a 75,000-gallon listed capacity.

That is chlorine evidence, not an accepted chloramine claim. The Ultrefiner Elite element 52633 has a chloramine-reduction row, but it treats drinking water at one tap, not all water entering the home. Whole-home chlorine evidence and point-of-use chloramine evidence are not interchangeable.

Identify the public water system serving the exact address, review its Consumer Confidence Report and test where the report does not answer the property-specific question. A regional hardness figure or a claim that all local tap water is unsafe is not a sound basis for sizing treatment. If the utility uses chloramine, ask for evidence covering that disinfectant and the intended treatment location.

RainSoft reverse-osmosis systems

The RainSoft Ultrefiner Elite is a point-of-use reverse-osmosis system installed at a drinking-water tap. The accepted evidence covers specific elements/modules under NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58 and 401, including claims involving chlorine, chloramine, particulates, cysts, VOCs, lead, total dissolved solids and certain incidental contaminants, depending on the component and standard.

The dealer should map the quoted bill of materials to element 52633 and module 51565. These are under-sink claims, not evidence of whole-home contaminant reduction.

Ultrefiner II is an older documented RO platform with a live older product route and Rev P manual in the accepted research. Its current sale, supersession and exact current certification status remain unresolved; it is not classified as discontinued and does not inherit Elite claims.

How much does a RainSoft system cost?

No universal national equipment or installed-price schedule was verified in the reviewed evidence. The manufacturer directs buyers through authorised dealers for testing, recommendation, installation and service. This does not establish a universal quote-only rule or mean that no public prices exist.

A written proposal should separate:

Do not compare an installed RainSoft quote with an online equipment-only price for another brand without normalising the scope.

RainSoft warranty: what “lifetime” actually means

A limited lifetime warranty does not mean every component, labour charge or future repair is free for life. Reviewed EC5 and EC4 instruments have component-specific lifetime terms for the treatment tank, valve, electrical components and named Ion-X resins. Original-purchaser eligibility, registration, genuine parts and non-transferable coverage matter; the remedy is repair or a replacement part, not automatic whole-unit replacement.

Other products have different boundaries. TC-FLT H electronics have fixed and prorated terms, and its filter media is not warranted. Ultrefiner Elite electronics have a 12-month term and the membrane has an 18-month prorated term; pre/post filters are consumables. No TC-M warranty term is established by those documents.

The detailed warranty table below preserves each instrument and its exclusions. The useful question is: what does the warranty supplied with this exact model cover, for how long, and which costs remain mine?

Who owns and services RainSoft systems?

RainSoft is a manufacturer-controlled consumer brand within Aquion/Pentair. Its documented dealer network handles product selection, sales, installation and service, making local service capability part of the buying decision.

Establish who services the system, whether they work on units they did not install, call-out charges, labour rates, response times, genuine-parts availability and the warranty-processing procedure. Ask what happens if the selling dealer closes or changes ownership. Dealer presence alone does not prove local stock or a particular installation price.

Public manuals contain some procedures and parts information. The reviewed sample did not establish a comprehensive public parts storefront or an independent-repair commitment; that does not prove independent service is impossible. Nor does the documented dealer pathway establish a universal professional-installation mandate or universal dealer exclusivity.

What maintenance does a RainSoft system require?

Is RainSoft worth considering?

RainSoft is worth comparing for buyers who prefer a dealer-supported treatment system to buying equipment alone. Its reviewed strengths include documented product families, exact NSF-listed configurations, manufacturer manuals and substantial component warranty coverage on certain systems.

The comparison challenge is that broad brand language can hide differences in configuration, certification, warranty and installed-price scope. Assess the exact-model documentation and local service proposal rather than treating a brand reputation or a lifetime headline as a substitute for them.

Before buying a RainSoft system

Get these answers in writing:

  1. Which water source and property test results support the recommendation?
  2. What exact model, suffix, resin/media quantity and bill of materials are proposed?
  3. Which certifier row supports each promised reduction, at what flow and service-cycle boundary?
  4. Is the treatment for hardness, chlorine or chloramine, and does it serve the whole home or one tap?
  5. What equipment, installation work, permits and commissioning are included in the price?
  6. Which consumables, service calls, freight and future replacements are extra?
  7. Which warranty revision applies, who registers it, and which components are lifetime, fixed-term, prorated or consumable?
  8. Is the exact system available locally, what is the lead time, and who will service it?

Detailed evidence: exact systems and certification scope

Family presentation, manual presence, current exact certifier listing, and exact commerce are separate status axes. A product family can appear on a current page while the exact listed suffix, SKU, bill of materials, local inventory, or lead time remains unproven.

System Treatment location and mechanism Exact accepted status boundary
EC5 75 V Point-of-entry (POE), whole-home ion exchange; brine regeneration exchanges calcium and magnesium hardness ions for sodium EC5 family currently presented; exact model manual-documented and currently NSF/ANSI 44-listed; exact sold suffix/SKU and local inventory unproven
EC4 75 V POE, whole-home ion exchange; brine regeneration exchanges calcium and magnesium hardness ions for sodium EC4 family currently presented; exact model manual-documented and currently NSF/ANSI 44-listed; exact sold suffix/SKU and local inventory unproven
TC-FLT 75 H POE, whole-home backwashing carbon filtration Current-family/manual-index context and exact current NSF/ANSI 42 row; exact commercial-page/configuration bridge, commerce, and local inventory unproven
Ultrefiner Elite Point-of-use (POU), under-sink reverse osmosis with prefilter, membrane, postfilter, faucet, storage tank, and drain Current national page and exact manual; current NSF rows are element/module-specific; sold bill-of-material bridge and stock unknown
Ultrefiner II-FMV configurations POU, under-sink reverse osmosis Live older route and Rev P manual; current sale, supersession, and exact current certifier status unresolved; not classified as discontinued

EC5 75 V and EC4 75 V softeners

Both exact rows are listed under NSF/ANSI 44 at 8.6 gpm for barium reduction, efficiency-rated hardness reduction, hardness reduction, and radium 226/228 reduction. The accepted research records the EC5 75 V at 26,100 grains on high salt, 21,300 medium, and 9,900 low; it records the EC4 75 V at 21,492 grains high, 19,104 medium, and 8,498 low.

These are salt-using, electrically controlled systems that require a drain and regeneration/backwash. Their accepted mechanisms address calcium and magnesium hardness ions; they do not establish chlorine reduction, chloramine reduction, or microorganism treatment without adequate disinfection.

TC-FLT 75 H whole-home carbon filter

The exact NSF/ANSI 42 row lists RainSoft TC-FLT 75 H, replacement element literal N/A, for 75,000 gallons at 5.4 gpm for chlorine and taste/odour reduction. It does not carry an accepted chloramine claim.

The accepted configuration is a 0.75-cubic-foot H media system using replacement filter media P/N 19026, automatic backwash, electricity, an air-gap drain, and adequate backwash flow. Salt is not required, but the carbon media eventually needs replacement.

Ultrefiner Elite under-sink reverse osmosis

The accepted NSF scopes belong to literal elements or modules, not automatically to every sold assembly. A buyer should ask the dealer to map the quoted bill of materials to element 52633 and module 51565 before relying on these rows.

Standard and exact component Accepted scope, flow, and service-cycle boundary
NSF/ANSI 42 — element 52633 Chloramine, chlorine, nominal particulate Class I, and taste/odor reduction at 1 gpm; the listing table carries a 225-gallon value with a mechanical-filtration service-cycle qualifier
NSF/ANSI 53 — element 52633 Cyst and VOC reduction at 1 gpm; mechanical-filtration service-cycle sentinel/qualifier kept rather than converted into a numeric replacement promise
NSF/ANSI 58 — module 51565 24.22 gallons per day and the enumerated listing reductions, including lead and total dissolved solids; the stated arsenic feed-water boundary still applies
NSF/ANSI 401 — element 52633 225 gallons at 1 gpm for the enumerated incidental-contaminant reductions, including microplastics

This is POU treatment for drinking water, not a POE whole-home chloramine system. The RO process sends concentrate to drain and uses replaceable prefilters, membrane, postfilter, and an applicable battery. The accepted maintenance schedule is about 12 months for pre/post filters and about 24–36 months for the membrane, subject to water conditions and use.

The NSF/ANSI 58 lead row may matter only after considering the property's service line, plumbing, and tap conditions. System-level data cannot predict an individual faucet, and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, NSF/ANSI 372, or [Pb] materials markers are not themselves lead-reduction claims.

Ultrefiner II: unresolved, not discontinued

The reviewed evidence shows a live older route and a Rev P manual for BNFP, BNFV, CHFP, and CHFV configurations. It did not recover a current NSF exact-suffix row, and it did not settle current sale or supersession. The correct buyer-facing status is unresolved—not “discontinued,” and not an inheritance of Elite claims.

Detailed evidence: certification claims still held

The accepted research does not use WQA, IAPMO, or UL as production certification proof:

A missing PFAS row in a consumer confidence report does not establish PFAS presence or absence. No PFAS conclusion should be drawn from that omission while the IAPMO Total-PFAS surface remains held.

Detailed evidence: commercial status

For all five reviewed product records, positioning is unknown, equipment-price evidence and installed-price evidence are null, and quote_only is false. That means the non-exhaustive sample did not establish public pricing or a universal quote-only sales rule; it does not mean no price exists or every dealer uses the same process.

Detailed evidence: warranty instruments and component terms

RainSoft's accepted warranty records are component-, purchaser-, revision-, and applicability-specific. They do not support a blanket “lifetime warranty” for every component, free labour or freight, transferable coverage, whole-unit replacement, or lifetime consumables. Registration and genuine-part requirements matter.

System and dated instrument Accepted component boundaries
EC5 — P/N 16842 Rev J 01/21 First retail purchaser; treatment tank, valve, electrical components, and named Ion-X resins have component-specific lifetime terms. Registration and genuine parts are required. Remedy is repair or genuine replacement part, not required whole-unit replacement; nominal labor/handling/packing or price-increase charges may apply. Labor, installation, and transportation are excluded, and the owner prepays freight on defective items. Nontransferable.
EC4 — P/N 50038 Rev B 07/24 First retail purchaser; treatment tank, valve, electrical components, and named Ion-X resins have component-specific lifetime terms. Registration and genuine parts are required. Repair/part remedy and nominal-charge boundary apply; labor, installation, and transportation are excluded, with owner-prepaid freight. Nontransferable.
TC-FLT H — P/N 50031 Rev B 09/24 Tank and valve have first-purchaser component-specific lifetime terms. Electronics are five years plus another five years pro rata. Filter media is not warranted and is water/use dependent. Registration and genuine parts are required; labor, installation, and transportation are excluded, and defective items ship freight prepaid by the owner. Nontransferable.
Ultrefiner Elite — P/N 50086 Rev A 02/25 First-purchaser component-specific terms; electronics are 12 months; membrane is 18 months pro rata at 1/18 of replacement cost for each unused month; pre/post filters are consumables. Sump coverage requires replacing all plastic housings every 10 years. Registration and genuine cartridges are required; labor, installation, transportation, owner-prepaid freight, and possible nominal charges remain outside the headline. Nontransferable.
Ultrefiner II — P/N 16778 Rev P 02/2021 Manual-documented first-purchaser component terms include named housings, faucet, and unibody control; electronics are 12 months; membrane is 18 months pro rata; filters are consumables. Registration, genuine components, and dealer-first service apply; labor, installation, and transportation are excluded. Current sold-unit applicability remains unknown, and Elite terms must not be inherited.

Before purchase, request the warranty document that applies to the exact quoted unit and installation date, then verify registration deadline, purchaser eligibility, component terms, proration, exclusions, freight, labour, installation, transportation, consumables, required maintenance, genuine-part rules, and the dealer's service process.

Bottom line

RainSoft has accepted exact-row evidence for conventional softening, chlorine-focused whole-home carbon filtration, and element/module-bounded under-sink RO claims. The best-supported buying process is to diagnose the address first, separate chlorine from chloramine and POE from POU, then reconcile the dealer's exact configuration to the literal certifier and warranty records.

A buyer should pause if the proposal relies on family-level wording instead of exact configuration proof, treats chlorine evidence as chloramine evidence, implies dealer presence means inventory, presents a component warranty as blanket lifetime coverage, or leaves installed scope and recurring ownership costs unitemised.

Frequently asked questions

What RainSoft water softener models are documented?

The manufacturer catalogue represented here includes EC5, EC5-CAB, EC4 and TC-M Series water conditioners. Family presence does not establish current local availability or the performance of a particular suffix.

How much does a RainSoft system cost?

No universal national equipment or installed-price schedule was verified. Ask the dealer to itemise equipment, installation, recurring consumables and service costs so that competing quotes cover the same work.

Can I buy RainSoft equipment directly?

The documented sales and service pathway routes customers through authorised dealers. Confirm purchasing arrangements and availability with the relevant dealer; the research does not establish universal dealer exclusivity.

Does every RainSoft system soften water?

No. RainSoft is a brand, not one treatment method. The reviewed line includes conventional ion-exchange softeners, a whole-home carbon filter, and under-sink reverse-osmosis systems. Each exact product and configuration must be evaluated by its own documented mechanism and claims.

Does the TC-FLT 75 H remove chloramine?

The reviewed TC-FLT 75 H row does not establish chloramine reduction: it covers chlorine and taste/odour only. Chlorine and chloramine are different disinfectants, so a chlorine claim does not automatically cover chloramine.

Is the Ultrefiner Elite a whole-home system?

No. The Ultrefiner Elite is an under-sink point-of-use reverse-osmosis drinking-water system. Its documented reductions—including the element 52633 chloramine row—apply to the treated tap, not to all water entering the home.

Are RainSoft systems NSF certified?

Certification is model-, standard-, and claim-specific. The reviewed EC5 75 V and EC4 75 V carry NSF/ANSI 44 rows, the TC-FLT 75 H carries an NSF/ANSI 42 row, and the Ultrefiner Elite carries element/module-specific rows under NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 58, and 401. WQA, IAPMO, and UL records remain held in the accepted evidence. Verify the exact installed configuration in the current certifier database rather than relying on a brand-level statement.

What does a RainSoft warranty cover?

Component-, purchaser-, revision-, and applicability-specific terms: EC5 and EC4 carry component-specific lifetime terms on the treatment tank, valve, electrical components and named Ion-X resins; TC-FLT H carries lifetime tank and valve terms with prorated electronics and unwarranted media; Ultrefiner Elite carries 12-month electronics and an 18-month prorated membrane with consumable filters. Registration and genuine parts are required, coverage is non-transferable, and labour, installation and transportation are excluded. Obtain the written warranty tied to the exact quoted unit and installation date.

Does Water System Guide install RainSoft systems?

No. Water System Guide is an independent research publisher, not a RainSoft dealer or installer. Exact model availability, installed pricing, and service terms must be confirmed with a qualified provider in writing.
