On this page

Direct answer: SpringWell’s warranty page gives a “lifetime warranty” against defects in materials and workmanship on “covered items,” listed as “fittings, FutureSoft media, tanks, housings, bypass’s, valves, and in/out heads.” It adds a 10-year limited warranty on “retention tanks and mineral tanks (14″ or larger)” and a limited warranty on “solid-state electronic heads,” which the warranty page sets at 7 years and the salt-softener product page at 5 years. Coverage applies only to “a registered owner” who owns or lives in the home where the system was first installed, starts on delivery, excludes plumber fees, and is governed by Florida law.

Publisher boundary: Water System Guide is an independent research publisher, not a SpringWell retailer. This page quotes SpringWell’s warranty page and the warranty text embedded on its salt-softener and FutureSoft product pages, reviewed October 15, 2026. The warranty page says it “may change without notice,” so check the current text before you rely on it. Where SpringWell’s pages disagree, we show both.

What the lifetime warranty covers

The core promise reads: “To the end user (customer), SpringWell Water (‘SpringWell’) warrants that all ‘covered items’ including its fittings, FutureSoft media, tanks, housings, bypass’s, valves, and in/out heads, shall be free of any defects in material and workmanship throughout the lifespan of the system under normal application, service and use” (SpringWell warranty).

Three points are easy to miss:

  1. It covers defects, not wear. The promise is against defects “in material and workmanship.” It is not a promise that the softener will soften your water for life.
  2. “Lifespan of the system” is not defined in years.
  3. Resin is not listed. The covered-items list names FutureSoft media, but not softener resin. The FutureSoft section separately warrants “all its FutureSoft salt-free water softeners.” We found no SpringWell statement about resin coverage for the SS series; ask SpringWell before buying if that matters to you.

The time-limited terms

The warranty page lists two shorter limited warranties:

Covered item Term on warranty page Term on salt-softener product page
Retention tanks and mineral tanks 14” or larger 10 years 10 years
Solid-state electronic heads 7 years 5 years

The SS1 and SS4 mineral tanks are 9” and 10” wide and the SS+ is 13” wide (salt softener product page), so by its wording the 10-year tank term, which applies to tanks “14″ or larger,” does not reach the standard SS softener tanks. Those tanks fall under the lifetime “tanks” language instead. The electronic head, the part most likely to fail on a modern softener, is the one with the shortest term, and SpringWell’s own pages disagree on its length. Save a copy of the warranty text in force on your purchase date.

Who is covered

“Only a registered owner is entitled to warranties under the condition the owner owns/lives in the home where the system was installed initially. Warranty will be considered nulled if the system is removed from the location it was installed initially.”

That means:

  • Register the system. The warranty is tied to a registered owner, so register in the name of the person who owns or lives in the home.
  • Moving voids it. Taking the softener to a new house ends coverage.
  • Selling the house: the text ties coverage to the owner who lives in the original home; it does not describe transfer to a new owner.

When it starts

“Warranty begins on the date the product is delivered to the customer.” A system stored for months before installation has already used part of the 5- or 7-year head term. SpringWell’s shipping policy says “you will receive a tracking ID via your preferred e-mail for every order,” so save that email and the carrier’s delivery record as proof of the start date.

What is excluded

The warranty page lists exclusions for:

  • “Improper handling, physical damage, modifications, misapplication, negligence, and abuse.”
  • “Accident or defects caused by acts of God, such as fire or freezing.”
  • “Failure to adhere to the instruction of the manufacturer during transportation, installation, and use.”
  • Maintenance: “Improper maintenance such as failure to replace filters or media at the appropriate time will be judged as ‘neglect.’”
  • Water conditions: “The installation of any system on water conditions beyond the recommended specification for that particular system will render the warranty void and non-binding.”

For softeners, the specifications that matter are on the product pages: 25 to 80 psi, 36 to 120°F and pH 6.5 to 10 for the SS series; 20 to 80 psi, pH 7.0 to 9.5, hardness up to 81 gpg, and zero iron, manganese, copper, oil and hydrogen sulfide for FutureSoft (FutureSoft product page).

Well water conditions

For privately owned wells, the warranty page lists criteria: no hydrogen sulfide (“rotten egg smell”), no oils, copper not above 1.30 mg/L, and attention to iron and manganese, which “will cause the media to become oxidized.” Where these exist, “a pre-treatment is highly recommended.” The installation guide is firmer: “Do not install on well water unless you have spoken to a customer service representative first” (installation instructions, PDF page 4).

What SpringWell pays for, and what you pay

  • Plumber fees: you. “SpringWell is not responsible nor liable for plumber fees or costs involving damaged goods.”
  • Return authorization: required. “Prior to return or repair, it is binding on the Customer to obtain from SpringWell Water a return goods authorization number.”
  • Freight to SpringWell: “The option to return the Covered Items freight prepaid is reserved to SpringWell.”
  • Freight back to you: repaired or replaced items “shall be returned to the initial point of shipment by prepaid standard freight.” Expedited freight is at your expense.
  • Liability cap: “SpringWell’s liability as contained in this warranties shall not exceed the product’s cost,” and SpringWell is not liable for “any loss, incidental or consequential damages.”
  • Governing law: Florida.

Combos: a second warranty with a performance guarantee

If you buy a filter-plus-softener combo, the filter tank falls under SpringWell’s separate “Premium Whole House Water Filter System” warranty. It has the same lifetime defects language, plus a performance guarantee: “SpringWell Water assures its Customers that the Carbon exclusive to SpringWell can reduce chlorine and chloramine levels below minimum detection levels (MDL) forthwith. This guaranteed performance is for 6 years or 1 million gallons” (SpringWell warranty).

The combo product page lists the filter’s maintenance: a pre-filter change “every 6-9 months” and media replacement “every 10 years or 1 million gallons” for the CF1, CF4 and CF+ tanks (combo product page). Because the warranty treats a missed filter or media change as “neglect,” those intervals are effectively warranty conditions. Keep receipts for pre-filters.

Two numbers are worth reading together: the carbon performance guarantee runs 6 years or 1 million gallons, while the published media life is 10 years or 1 million gallons. For a household that uses less than about 450 gallons a day (our arithmetic: 1 million gallons over 6 years), the 6-year limit is reached first.

Warranty versus returns versus the Performance Promise

SpringWell’s product pages describe two other protections that are separate from the warranty (salt softener product page):

Protection What it is Time limit
Returns Refund for unused, uninstalled items, less a 10% restocking fee and shipping 6 months from purchase
Defective item exchange Contact support “within 30 days of delivery”; prepaid return label provided 30 days from delivery
Performance Promise Support “through troubleshooting, replacement parts, or other remedies as appropriate” if the system “does not perform as expected” 6 months
Warranty Repair or replacement of defective covered items Lifetime, 10, 7 or 5 years by item

The Performance Promise is the only one aimed at results rather than defects. If your softened water is still hard in the first months, contact SpringWell under that promise, and use our SpringWell not-softening guide to record what you see.

How to protect your coverage

  1. Register the system and keep the delivery confirmation.
  2. Test your water and confirm it is within the model’s published limits; on a well, call SpringWell first.
  3. Install to SpringWell’s instructions, with a bypass.
  4. Keep up with salt, brine tank cleaning and, on combos, pre-filter and media changes.
  5. Get a return authorization number before sending anything back.

Frequently asked questions

Does SpringWell have a lifetime warranty?

Yes, against defects in materials and workmanship on covered items: fittings, FutureSoft media, tanks, housings, bypass valves, valves and in/out heads. Electronic heads have a shorter term, and mineral tanks 14 inches or larger have a 10-year term.

How long is the warranty on the SpringWell electronic head?

SpringWell’s warranty page says 7 years. The warranty text on the salt-softener product page says 5 years. Keep a copy of the version in force when you buy.

Is the SpringWell warranty transferable?

The text ties coverage to a registered owner who owns or lives in the home where the system was first installed, and voids it if the system is moved. It does not describe a transfer to a new owner.

Does the SpringWell warranty cover installation costs?

No. SpringWell says it is not responsible for plumber fees. You also need a return goods authorization number before any return or repair.
