Direct answer: Kinetico’s residential limited warranty gives Premier Series and Premier XP softeners 10 years on all parts, including the ion exchange resin and Kinetico by-pass valves, plus 10 years on the resin tanks and salt storage tank. Signature Series and Essential Series softeners get 5 years on the valve body, brine valve, all parts, resin and by-pass valves, and 5 years on the tanks. The warranty replaces defective parts “at no charge for the part,” but “does NOT include freight or labor charges.” It applies only if an authorized Kinetico dealer sold the system and registered it with Kinetico within 30 days of installation.

Publisher boundary: Water System Guide is an independent research publisher, not a Kinetico dealer or affiliate. This page summarizes Kinetico’s Limited Warranty for Residential Applications, document 16662D (PDF created May 26, 2021), as published on kinetico.com and reviewed October 15, 2026. It is not legal advice. Your dealer’s paperwork and the warranty version in force on your installation date control your coverage.

Coverage by softener family

The warranty lists coverage by product group, counted “from the date of original system installation” (Kinetico residential limited warranty):

Product group Term What the warranty lists
I. Premier Series and Premier Series XP softeners (also Kinetico filters, aerators, neutralizers, upflow dechlorinators, CRS and Arsenic Guard) 10 years “All parts, including Macrolite® filtration media, ion exchange resin,* and Kinetico by-pass valves and prefilter assemblies, except as otherwise noted”
10 years “The polyglass resin/media tanks and regenerant storage tank”
7 years “2060f Sulfur Guard™”
II. Signature Series and Essential Series softeners 5 years “Valve body, brine valve, all parts, ion exchange resin*, and Kinetico by-pass valves and prefilter assemblies, except as otherwise noted”
5 years “The polyglass resin/media tanks and regenerant storage tank”
III. Scale Reducing System (SRS) 5 years The SRS system, media tank, all parts and by-pass valve, “excluding SRS media”
V. Powerline PRO and PRO SV softeners 10 / 5 / 1 years Tanks and Macrolite media / control valve body and brine valve assembly / valve seals and electronic valve components

Kinetico’s own softener page matches the headline terms: Premier XP “10 year warranty” and Signature Series “5 year warranty” (Kinetico water softeners).

For Powerline PRO, the warranty notes that “there is no warranty on resin or media” other than Macrolite filtration media, and that “yearly inspection and cleaning of main seals, spacers and piston to remove iron build-up is required to be performed by a local authorized Kinetico dealer in order to receive coverage.”

The resin condition: chlorine and chloramine

The asterisk on “ion exchange resin” matters if you are on chlorinated or chloraminated city water. The warranty says: “When oxidizing agents are present, the softener must be a Premier Series Q850 XP or Q850 OD XP, Premier Series 4040s or 4040s OD Carbon Combination System or be preceded by a Kinetico Dechlorination or CRS System.” It adds that the carbon, Chloraban or Sulfaban media in those systems “must be maintained and replaced according to the system’s operating instructions. If these conditions are not met, the ion exchange resin is not covered by this Limited Warranty.”

In plain terms, a standalone S-series softener on chlorinated water keeps its valve, tank and by-pass coverage, but its resin coverage depends on having chlorine or chloramine removal upstream or built in. The Premier XP manual says the combination systems’ carbon or Chloraban should be replaced “when you begin to notice the return of a chlorine/chloramine odor,” and to “expect to replace the carbon/Chloraban every few years as a general rule” (Premier XP manual, PDF page 11). That maintenance is not covered: “Periodic replacement of filter cartridges and certain filter media (such as carbon, … Chloraban®, Sulfaban™ …) is part of the normal maintenance required by your system. These replacements and media loss due to natural attrition are not covered.”

Conditions you must meet

The warranty’s conditions, quoted from the document (residential limited warranty):

  • Authorized dealer sale. “Your system must be sold to you by an authorized Kinetico dealer and installed, operated and serviced in accordance with Kinetico’s recommendations and any applicable codes.”
  • Registration within 30 days. “To place your system under this Limited Warranty, your authorized Kinetico dealer must register your equipment with Kinetico Incorporated within 30 days of the installation date.” The dealer does this, not you, so ask for confirmation.
  • Single-family homes. The residential warranty “only covers Products installed in a single family dwelling where the sale is contracted directly with the single family homeowner. All other applications are covered by Kinetico’s Limited Warranty for Commercial Applications.”
  • Water within limits. For softening equipment, influent water must not exceed 125 psi (80 psi for aerators and Powerline PRO air-activated filters), with an operating temperature of 35°F to 120°F.
  • Keep your receipt. “Retain your receipt along with this Limited Warranty for reference if service is necessary.”

The owner’s manuals add two practical points. Freeze damage is excluded: “Kinetico’s warranty doesn’t cover damage to your system due to freezing” (Premier XP manual, PDF page 15; Signature manual, PDF page 8). And only silicone lubricant should be used on filter O-rings, because “any other lubricant, including a petroleum-based lubricant … may void the applicable Limited Warranty” (Premier XP manual, PDF page 13).

What is excluded

The warranty “does not include damage to your system due to abuse, misuse, neglect, freezing, alterations, misapplication or a change in the influent water characteristics.” It is “limited solely to the equipment manufactured and distributed by Kinetico,” because “the performance of your system is related to the chemistry of the water being treated.”

It also limits implied warranties to the written term and excludes “incidental, consequential or special damages.” State law may give you additional rights; the warranty has a section on how state law relates to it.

The labor exclusion is the one most owners notice. A replaced valve part is free, but the dealer’s trip and labor are not covered by Kinetico’s warranty. If a dealer offers a service plan, that is a separate contract with the dealer, and its terms are not part of Kinetico’s warranty.

Moving house or selling the home

Kinetico’s warranty is unusually clear on transfers:

  • New owner of the house: “This limited product warranty is transferable by the original owner to a subsequent owner. The only requirement is that the system must remain at the site of original installation.”
  • Taking the softener with you: “The ORIGINAL OWNER may move the listed Products to another location. The influent water quality at the subsequent location MUST, however, be within your Product’s operating specifications. Please contact a local authorized Kinetico dealer prior to installation at another location.”

So the warranty can follow the house to a buyer, or follow the original owner to a new house, but a second owner who moves the system is not covered by either clause.

Replacement parts

“Any replacement parts for Products specifically identified in this Limited Warranty shall be warranted for the remainder of the Products’ original warranty period, only.” A part replaced in year eight of a Premier XP’s 10-year term is covered for the remaining two years, not for a new ten. New parts “not mentioned elsewhere” in the warranty, and other Kinetico products not listed, are covered for one year from purchase.

If your dealer also quotes a K5 Drinking Water Station, the softener affects its warranty. Installed “following a Kinetico Water Softener,” with K5 feed water that “must first pass through a Kinetico water softener,” the K5 gets 10 years on all parts and 10 years on the membrane. Installed separately, it gets 10 years on parts and four years on the membrane. The warranty adds that membrane coverage “does not cover damage caused by the failure of non-Kinetico equipment to remove iron or hardness minerals.”

How to make a claim

The warranty’s instruction is short: “For service under this Limited Warranty, contact your authorized Kinetico dealer.” The manuals give the same advice for any suspected problem: “put the system in by-pass and call your local, authorized Kinetico dealer” (Premier XP manual, PDF page 17). Before you call, our Kinetico not-softening checks cover the basics a dealer will ask about, such as salt level and by-pass position.

Bring:

  1. Your receipt and the installation date.
  2. The model, for example S250 XP or Signature 935, and the product number from the manual cover.
  3. Confirmation that the dealer registered the system.
  4. For resin claims on city water, records of carbon, Chloraban or dechlorinator media changes.

10 years on all parts, resin, by-pass valve and tanks for Premier Series and Premier XP softeners. 5 years for Signature Series and Essential Series softeners. Terms run from the date of original installation.

Does the Kinetico warranty cover labor?

No. The residential limited warranty replaces defective parts at no charge for the part, but “does NOT include freight or labor charges.”

Is the Kinetico warranty transferable?

Yes. The original owner can transfer it to a subsequent owner if the system stays at the original installation site, or move the system to a new home if the water there is within the product’s operating specifications.
