Direct answer: The published warranty for Gemline softeners, which are certified under NuGen Pure Water Systems’ Fusion XT model numbers, has three tiers. The mineral tank, brine tank and control valve body are covered for life. The softening resin is covered for 10 years. Digital and mechanical parts are covered for 5 years. Service, labor and freight are not included in any tier, and the coverage is limited to the original owner at the original installation site. The 2023 Gemline brochure adds conditions the 2012 manual does not have: the resin term applies only on non-chlorinated water, and the warranty is void where raw water chlorine or chloramine exceeds 1 ppm.
Publisher boundary: Water System Guide is an independent research publisher, not NuGen, Gemline or a dealer. We summarize two dated manufacturer documents reviewed October 8, 2026. We cannot confirm which version applies to a specific installation, so ask your seller for the warranty document that ships with your system and keep a copy.
Which warranty document applies to a Gemline softener?
Two manufacturer documents publish the terms:
- The Fusion XT owners manual (footer revision 5/10/2012), printed page 35.
- The Gemline Water Softening Series brochure (PDF created May 2023), page 4.
The brochure’s specification page states that each Gemline softener is WQA-certified under the matching NuGen Fusion XT number, for example Gemline-48 under Fusion XT-48 (brochure page 3). Its performance page also says “See manual for manufacturer’s limited warranty.”
The two documents have the same tier structure, but the wording and exclusions differ. The brochure is newer. If your paperwork matches neither, the document you were given at sale controls, not this page.
What does each warranty tier cover?
| Tier | 2012 manual wording | 2023 brochure wording |
|---|---|---|
| Lifetime | Mineral tank, brine tank and control valve body; “lifetime non-prorated” | Mineral tank, brine tank shell and control valve body; lifetime against manufacturer’s defects only |
| 10 years | Cation softening resin | Cation softening resin, on non-chlorinated water only |
| 5 years | All digital and mechanical parts | All digital and mechanical parts, against manufacturer’s defects only |
| Not included | Service and labor charges | Service, labor and freight charges |
“Control valve body” is the housing, not the whole valve. The motor, PC board, piston, seals and spacer stack are digital or mechanical parts in the 5-year tier, and those are the parts the manual’s error-code table points to. Use our Fusion XT parts guide to see which parts the manual names.
What is the $100 maximum replacement charge?
Both documents state that the warranty provides a maximum replacement charge of $100.00 per item for system parts not covered under the lifetime section. This appears in the 2012 manual (printed page 35) and the May 2023 brochure (page 4). The brochure adds that the charge is “contingent to” the exclusions section.
Neither document says when the charge applies or whether it replaces the 5-year and 10-year terms after they expire. Do not treat it as a price quote. Ask the seller in writing how this clause applies to a part on your system and what the labor, trip and freight charges would be. Those are not covered in any tier.
Exclusions that can void the warranty
Both documents exclude:
- Installations on water pressure below 40 psi or above 90 psi.
- Hot water back-feeding into the system.
- Neglected or misapplied systems.
- Sand, silt, turbidity, excess iron or organics in the raw water.
- Fire, flood, freezing, power surges, brownouts, earthquakes and other natural disasters.
The 2023 brochure adds:
- Void where raw-water chlorine and/or chloramine exceeds 1 ppm.
- Void after vacuum or reverse flow, or direct UV sunlight.
- No coverage on water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality.
- Installation by a licensed installer meeting state and local plumbing codes. The manual says “installed correctly” and serviced by an “Authorized Factory Technician”.
- “Not for installation in California.”
For city water, the chlorine condition matters. The softener manual does not say what your raw-water chlorine level is. Your water utility’s report or a test will. Gemline also sells KDC carbon filter systems for chlorine and chloramine reduction, and the KDC brochure, page 4 publishes its own, separate warranty: 10 years on the mineral tank (not the filter media) and 5 years on the control valve head (not wear items), with a 40–90 psi limit. Ask whether pretreatment changes anything in your softener warranty before buying both.
How do you make a warranty claim?
The published process is short. NuGen repairs or replaces a defective part at the manufacturer’s option, F.O.B. Lindon, Utah, provided the part is returned freight prepaid. All service must be done by an authorized technician. Both documents list NuGen Pure Water Systems, 28 South 1550 West, Lindon, UT 84042, as the contact for parts and service.
In practice, that means:
- Your installer or an authorized technician diagnoses the fault and removes the part.
- The part goes back to NuGen at your or the dealer’s freight cost.
- Labor for removal and reinstallation is not covered.
Keep the installation date, model, serial number and the warranty document from the sale together. The manual’s installation instructions tell the installer to record the serial number on both the installer’s and customer’s records (printed page 6).
Is the Gemline warranty transferable?
The published terms do not transfer. Both documents limit coverage to the original owner at the original installation site. If you are buying a house with a Gemline softener, or moving one to a new home, assume the manufacturer warranty does not follow the equipment unless NuGen confirms otherwise in writing.
Questions to get answered in writing before you buy
Dealer service plans and labor guarantees are separate from the manufacturer warranty and vary by seller. Ask:
- Which warranty document applies, and what is its date?
- Who is the authorized technician in my area, and what do they charge for diagnosis, labor and freight on a warranty part?
- Does the $100 per-item maximum replacement charge apply to my system, and when?
- Is my raw water chlorine or chloramine above 1 ppm? If so, what does that do to the resin and system coverage?
- Does any dealer labor warranty cover the installation, and for how long?

Frequently asked questions
Does a Gemline water softener have a lifetime warranty?
Partly. The published terms give lifetime coverage to the mineral tank, brine tank (the brochure says brine tank shell) and control valve body. Resin is covered for 10 years and digital and mechanical parts for 5 years. Service, labor and freight are not included.
Does the Gemline warranty cover labor?
No. Both the 2012 Fusion XT manual and the 2023 Gemline brochure state that service and labor charges are not included, and the brochure also excludes freight. Ask your dealer whether it offers a separate labor warranty.
Is chlorinated city water a problem for the Gemline warranty?
It can be. The 2023 brochure limits the resin warranty to non-chlorinated water and voids the warranty where raw-water chlorine or chloramine exceeds 1 ppm. Check your utility report and ask the seller how these terms apply before installation.
Can I install a Gemline softener in California?
The 2023 Gemline brochure’s warranty states “Not for installation in California.” The Gemline KDC filter brochure carries the same note. Ask the manufacturer before buying for a California home.
