Direct answer: Gemline water softeners are made by NuGen Pure Water Systems of Lindon, Utah. The 2023 Gemline brochure lists five Gemline softeners and states that each one “is WQA certified under Nugen Pure Water Systems” as a Fusion XT model: the Gemline-32C as the Fusion XT-32C, and the Gemline-48, 60, 70 and 90 as the Fusion XT-48, 60, 70 and 90. Parts, service and warranty claims go to NuGen at 28 South 1550 West, Lindon, UT 84042. Gemline is not a separate factory. It is the name under which the same NuGen equipment is sold through dealers.

Publisher boundary: Water System Guide is an independent research publisher, not a Gemline or NuGen dealer. This page uses the Gemline Water Softening Series and KDC brochures (PDFs created May 2023), the NuGen Fusion XT catalog sheet (PDF created June 2012) and the Fusion XT owners manual (footer revision 5/10/2012), all reviewed October 15, 2026. Corporate details beyond what these documents print are outside this page.

What the Gemline brochure says about the manufacturer

The Gemline Water Softening Series brochure is a four-page document. Its specification page carries a table headed “Certified Gemline System Specifications” and a note under it that ties each Gemline model to a NuGen model number (Gemline brochure, PDF page 3):

Gemline model Listed as Grains Bypass System size Brine tank
Gemline-32C Fusion XT-32C 32,000 1” 14 × 21 × 43 One-piece cabinet
Gemline-48 Fusion XT-48 45,000 1” 11 × 11 × 51 15 × 15 × 41
Gemline-60 Fusion XT-60 60,000 1” 11 × 11 × 61 15 × 15 × 41
Gemline-70 Fusion XT-70 70,000 1” 12 × 12 × 59 18 × 18 × 40
Gemline-90 Fusion XT-90 90,000 1.25” 13 × 13 × 61 18 × 18 × 40

The same page lists the reasons the brochure gives to buy the series: “Made in the USA,” “WQA/NSF-44 Certified,” “Meets all plumbing codes,” “Limited Lifetime Warranty,” full-flow control valves and “state-of-the-art electronic digital metered controls.”

Every page of the brochure that discusses parts or warranty points back to NuGen. The specification page says “See manual for manufacturer’s limited warranty. For parts and service contact: Nugen Pure Water Systems • 28 South 1550 West • Lindon, UT 84042 • (801) 785-7010.” The warranty page that follows names “Nugen Pure Water Systems” as the party that “will repair or replace defective part at manufacture’s option,” and says defective parts are handled “F.O.B. Lindon, Utah” (Gemline brochure, PDF page 4).

What the older NuGen documents show

The Gemline name does not appear in the two older NuGen documents we reviewed. They sell the same sizes under the Fusion XT name.

The Fusion XT catalog sheet, a two-page PDF created in June 2012, lists the Fusion XT-32C, 48, 60, 70 and 90 at the same 32,000, 45,000, 60,000, 70,000 and 90,000 grains as the Gemline table. Its back page reads “Manufactured by,” followed by NuGen’s Lindon address, phone number and www.nugenwater.com (NuGen Fusion XT catalog, PDF page 2). The catalog’s own “Why buy Fusion XT Series?” list matches the Gemline brochure’s list almost word for word, including “Made in the USA” and “WQA/NSF-44 Certified.”

The Fusion XT owners manual tells owners with questions to “contact your local dealer or NuGen Pure Water Systems” at the same Lindon address (Fusion XT manual, PDF page 3). Its performance data sheets cover the XT-48, XT-60, XT-70, XT-90 and XT-32C, plus a separate efficiency-rated XT-70ER (manual, PDF pages 33–34).

There is one small mismatch between the two catalogs. The 2012 NuGen sheet lists the XT-48 and XT-60 brine tank as 15 × 15 × 35 and the XT-32C cabinet as 12.5 × 24 × 43. The 2023 Gemline brochure lists 15 × 15 × 41 and 14 × 21 × 43. The manual’s data sheet gives a third set of brine tank sizes, 14 × 14 × 34 for the XT-48 through XT-70. We do not know which applies to a given installation; measure the tank you have, or ask the dealer which tank is in the quote.

Gemline versus Fusion XT: does the name matter?

For most owner questions, no. The brochure itself maps each Gemline size to a Fusion XT model, and the owners manual for the Fusion XT is the reference for settings, error codes and parts. Our Gemline brand research page records that the WQA Gold Seal listing is under the manufacturer name, Nugen Pure Water Systems Inc., not under “Gemline.” If you want to check a certification, search for the NuGen name and the Fusion XT model number.

The name matters in two places:

  • Capacity labels. The Gemline-48 is listed as a 45,000-grain unit, not 48,000. The model number is not a capacity. The manual’s data sheet gives the XT-48 a capacity of 23,500, 29,500 or 36,000 grains depending on the salt dose (manual, PDF page 33). Our Fusion XT models comparison lays out every size by salt dose.
  • The XT-70ER. The manual has an efficiency-rated XT-70ER data sheet that the Gemline brochure does not list. If a quote names a “Gemline 70,” ask whether it is the XT-70 or the XT-70ER.

Who sells and installs Gemline softeners

None of the reviewed documents describe direct sales to homeowners. The brochure leaves parts and service to NuGen and installation to others. Its warranty says “All systems must be installed correctly by a licensed installer” and “All service work must be performed by an Authorized Technician” (brochure, PDF page 4). The manual’s pre-installation page is written for “the dealer,” who “should read this page and guide the installer through setting the Hardness, Days Override, and Time of Regeneration prior to installation” (manual, PDF page 4).

In practice that means a Gemline softener is bought from a plumber, water-treatment dealer or wholesaler, and the warranty route runs through that installer to NuGen. The Gemline warranty guide covers what is and is not included. Labor, service and freight are excluded in every tier.

What else is sold under the Gemline name

The Gemline KDC brochure describes a whole-home filter line, the KDC 48, 60, 70 and 90. It is a carbon filter, not a softener: the brochure says in capitals “KDC SYSTEMS DO NOT SOFTEN WATER,” and describes the media as coconut shell carbon, catalytic coconut shell carbon and KDF-55 (Gemline KDC brochure). It recommends installing the KDC “in conjunction with a cation exchange water softener” and says it is designed for reducing chlorine, heavy metals and organics. If a quote bundles a KDC with a Gemline softener, the two are separate tanks with separate media and maintenance.

Is Gemline the same as other brands?

The documents support only one relationship: Gemline equals NuGen’s Fusion XT line. We found no manufacturer document tying Gemline to any other softener brand, and the Gemline brand page records that it is not a Pentair product.

What the Fusion XT shares with many dealer softeners is the type of control valve. The manual’s parts pages list valve components with “CV-P-V” part numbers, such as the downflow piston CV-P-V3011, and a service wrench CV-P-V3193-02 (manual, PDF pages 5 and 21). That shows which valve parts fit. It does not make the softener a different brand. For order numbers by assembly, see the Fusion XT parts guide.

What the documents do not tell you

Three things a buyer might expect on a manufacturer page are missing from the reviewed documents:

  • Prices. None of the reviewed NuGen and Gemline documents prints a price. The only dollar figure is the warranty’s $100 maximum replacement charge per item for parts outside the lifetime tier.
  • A current manual revision. The Fusion XT manual we reviewed carries a 5/10/2012 footer. The Gemline brochure is from 2023 and refers owners to “the manual” without naming a revision. Before relying on a setting or code, confirm with the dealer that your control matches the 2012 manual’s screens.
  • Ownership details. The documents name NuGen as the manufacturer and give its Lindon address. They do not say who owns NuGen, how many dealers carry Gemline, or where the brand is sold. We have not added those details from other sources.

Questions to ask a Gemline dealer

  • Which Fusion XT model number is the quoted Gemline unit, and is it the XT-70 or the XT-70ER?
  • Which brine tank or cabinet size is included?
  • What hardness and iron did your water test show, and what hardness will be programmed? The manual says the hardness setting “can be increased if soluble iron needs to be reduced” (manual, PDF page 9).
  • Does your water carry chlorine or chloramine above 1 ppm? The 2023 brochure voids the warranty above that level.
  • Who will handle warranty claims with NuGen, and what will you charge for labor and freight?

For running costs once it is installed, see the Gemline ownership cost guide. For how and when the softener recharges, see the Gemline regeneration guide.

Frequently asked questions

Who manufactures Gemline water softeners?

NuGen Pure Water Systems of Lindon, Utah. The 2023 Gemline brochure says each Gemline softener is WQA certified under a NuGen Fusion XT model number and sends parts and service to NuGen.

Is a Gemline softener the same as a NuGen Fusion XT?

The brochure maps them one to one: the Gemline-32C, 48, 60, 70 and 90 are the Fusion XT-32C, 48, 60, 70 and 90. The Fusion XT owners manual is the reference manual for both names.

Where are Gemline softeners made?

The brochure and the NuGen catalog both say “Made in the USA.” The catalog says “Manufactured by” above NuGen’s Lindon, Utah address, and the warranty ships parts F.O.B. Lindon, Utah.

Can I buy a Gemline softener directly from the manufacturer?

The reviewed documents describe no direct-to-homeowner sales. They require a licensed installer and authorized technician, and the manual is written for the dealer who sets it up.
